Close to major urban areas in the lower North Island, Himatangi Beach has great facilities, including
a medical centre, general store, licensed restaurant, surf club, a library, churches, community centre, motor camp, chartered club and a radio station. It also has a reliable public water supply and a fantastic volunteer fire service of very dedicated people.
The beach is typical of those found on the west coast of New Zealand. Great opportunities for surfing and water sports exist and there is a strong surf club promoting safety. Let the kids play in the stream. Drive the coastline in a sand or beach buggy. Try sand yachting on the broad beach at low tide. Fishing is good, whitebaiting is available in season and tuatuas and pipis can be gathered at low tide. The beach can be accessed by car and the town welcomes careful drivers.
